A blade designed to work with the water, not against it

FLOWFORCE didn’t begin as a paddle. It began with marine propulsion, understanding how water moves around hulls, propellers and rudders. We applied those same principles of hydrodynamics to human-powered propulsion and asked a simple question: could a paddle blade be designed to work with the water, rather than simply push against it?

Here’s what we found. A conventional paddle is essentially a solid blade. As it enters the water, pressure builds rapidly across its surface. That pressure creates propulsion, but it also creates a sudden peak load, felt through the shoulders, elbows, wrists and torso. Repeat that hundreds, even thousands, of times in a session and the physical demand adds up.

A heavy catch can feel powerful. But more load doesn’t necessarily mean more efficient propulsion.

When more effort is spent managing load, less of it is being used to move you forward. FLOWFORCE takes a different approach, managing water flow and pressure across the stroke so the load builds more progressively. The catch feels softer, the blade remains stable and power is delivered more smoothly, helping you maintain performance with less strain.

Built for five disciplines

Every blade uses the same slit technology, tuned to the stroke of the sport.

The same power, delivered differently

Rather than letting pressure build unevenly across the blade, the slits manage the pressure field throughout the stroke. The result is a smoother, more progressive loading profile, one that most paddlers notice on the first stroke.

The catch feels softer. The blade stays stable. The drive feels more controlled. And the blade continues to generate effective forward propulsion.

FLOWFORCE wasn’t developed by trial and error. The technology uses the same physics as applied in our marine and aviation divisions.

Modelled, tested, and approved for competition

Tested across six sports

We asked paddlers across SUP, kayak, canoe, rowing, dragon boat and outrigger to put FLOWFORCE against the equipment they already know and trust. Across disciplines and experience levels, the feedback has been remarkably consistent: a smoother, more comfortable stroke, without compromising performance.

For performance: paddlers and rowers describe being able to maintain their effort for longer, holding rhythm and cadence deeper into training sessions, endurance paddles and races.

For the everyday paddle: the difference is just as relevant. Testers describe a softer, more stable stroke, less strain through the upper body and more time on the water before fatigue begins to take over.

  • Smoother through the catch
  • More stable through the drive
  • Less strain on shoulders, elbows and wrists
  • More comfortable over longer distances
  • Easier to maintain stroke rhythm

Different sports. Different paddlers. A remarkably consistent experience.

Designed Before It Was Built

FLOWFORCE wasn’t developed through trial and error.

Before prototypes were manufactured, major design iterations were analysed using Computational Fluid Dynamics.

The research examined:

  • Pressure distribution across the blade
  • Velocity around the blade
  • Flow separation and wake development
  • Dynamic blade movement through a complete stroke
  • Slit width, spacing and orientation
  • Three-dimensional blade behaviour

The simulations were used to identify configurations that improved driving force during dynamic operation.
